Civic Engagement
Empowering Citizens to Shape Energy Decisions
The Problem
Energy decisions in Kenya have too often been made behind closed doors.
Communities face the impact of policies — displacement, pollution, or lost livelihoods — yet are rarely part of the decision-making process.
Without informed, organised citizen voices, energy governance risks becoming top-down and detached from local realities.

What We’re Doing About It

Community Mobilisation
We work with grassroots organisations to build awareness of energy rights, access to information, and public participation processes.

Capacity Building
EGP trains CSOs and community representatives on advocacy, transparency tools, and policy monitoring — equipping them to hold institutions accountable

Information Access
By promoting the use of Kenya’s Access to Information Act (2016), we help communities and CSOs obtain data critical for evidence-based advocacy.

Dialogue Platforms
We convene regular multi-stakeholder forums connecting citizens, experts, and policymakers to co-create practical governance solutions.
Our Impact
Empowered communities to successfully advocate for fair compensation and environmental accountability.
Facilitated public access to key energy data and reports, strengthening citizen oversight.
Institutionalised civic participation in county-level energy planning processes.
Built a network of informed CSOs capable of sustained engagement in the sector.
